Tulip

Tulips are a favorite flower for weddings.  They are beautiful for their simplicity.  Large, smooth leathery petals come

together in a cup, on top of long, arching thick juicy stems.  Tulips have a magical way of opening wide during the day and closing at night.  They are beautiful both ways – though tulips are more traditionally thought of closed, most of them display dynamic patterns inside when open that can be very beautiful in arrangements.  They are beautiful bunched tight or free and arching.

Colors of tulips: tulips come in almost every imaginable color -yellow, orange, red, white, cream , purple, pink, etc.  There is no truly blue tulip, nor a thoroughly green one, but several varieties have green variegation and shades on their petals.

Tulips are perfect for brides and bridesmaids bouquets, large arrangements and table centerpieces.  If kept in water, they will last for many days.  They do not do well wire wrapped, so they must be hand tied into bouquets and they are not recommended for boutonnieres or corsages.

Design Tips:

You can have tulips in place of roses for most kinds of wedding flower arrangements if you are looking to save some money.

Use the natural architectural bend in the stem of the tulip to your advantage.  A clear glass vase with 3-12 long stemmed french tulips allowed to fall where they will creates instant easy interest and beauty.

What to pair tulips with:

Tulips look great with most other flowers.  A cascading bouquet where the tulips are the tip and the rest is a mix of roses, some peonies or a lily blossom can be very pretty.  Tulips are so easy to use and match because they come in so

Tulips are available at their best in the spring, though may also be available somewhat throughout the year.  Most tulips used in the USA are grown in Holland
