standing out from the rest, so if you use sunflowers in your wedding, be prepared that they will dominate the flower show.  Of course, if you love sunflowers then this is what you want!

Colors: sunflowers signature color is a warm yellow.  However they also occur in burnt reds, and oranges.

The use of the Sunflower in weddings:

The stems of are so nice and thick and hardy, they can be used in many ways.  For a bouquet, the sunflowers must be left on their stems and put in a hand-tied bouquet.  Sunflowers do not like to be wire-wrapped, and most varieties of sunflowers are too big for use in corsages and boutonnieres.

The sunflower is an excellent choice for a buffet table or other large arrangement –they make a very big impact even from far away.

What to pair them with:

Sunflowers are so beautiful and bold, the can easily hold their own by themselves.

For fuller –sunflower only arrangements, try mixing them with greenery –either by keeping their own leaves on (if they are in good condition) or by arranging other broad leafed greenery around.  (You don’t want the leaves to be too small or delicate –this won’t match the bold big sunflowers)

If you don’t want sunflowers to be the only flower at your wedding, then try selecting a few more bold counterparts.  Dark blue, tall delphinium are a great choice.  They introduce balance to the bright yang sunflowers, with their equally bold and striking but soft deep-hued yin  flower spikes.

For a summer or fall mix, compliment sunflowers with deep purples and bright reds and burnt oranges.  Besides delphinium, larkspur, bright colored roses, purple campanula, and even wheat stalks can look nice.

Style Don’t: Don’t mix sunflowers with pale colored tropicals such as orchids: they tend to look out of place with the wild robust sunflower.
